After I attached an external antenna, why didn't my reception improve?

Make sure that your antenna switch is in the correct position. When using the built-in antennas, the switch should be in the WHIP position. When using external FM antennas it should be in the 75 Ohm position. When using external SW or AM antennas, it should be in either the 50 or 500 Ohm position, depending on the type of antenna being used.
