Why does the radio abruptly shut off while playing on batteries?
The batteries have gone dead. The clock digits will still show and the light will still work, however, the batteries do not have enough power to play the radio. Replace them with high-quality, alkaline batteries such as Duracell or Energizer.
Why does my radio turn on and play for an hour all by itself? How can I stop it from doing this?
This occurs because the alarm feature has been activated. This feature is activated and deactivated by the AUTO button.

- The "musical note" symbol wakes you to the radio playing the last station it was set to.
- The "bell" symbol wakes you to a beeper sound.

How do I store a station into memory?
There are 40 memories. Any AM, FM or SW frequency can be stored into any memory. First, tune to the station that you wish to store. Then, using the numbered buttons, punch-in the memory number that you want it stored into. Then, press the STORE button.
Let's use BBC's evening frequency to North America, 5975 kilohertz, as an example. We'll store it into memory 32. Do the following:
- Tune to 5 9 7 5 KHz.
- Press 3 2.
- Immediately press the STORE button. If the display flashes, it means that a frequency is already stored into this memory. To overwrite it, immediately press STORE again. If you don't want to overwrite it, start over and use a different memory.
How do I access stations that I have stored into memory?
Use the MEMO buttons to tune through the memories. To access a specific memory, e.g. memory 12, press 1 2, then press either MEMO button.
How do I set the clock?
This can be done with the radio on or off. The YB-400's clock is a 24 hour clock only - it does not show time as a.m. and p.m. There are two clocks, TIME I and TIME II, as shown at the top-center of the LCD. Select the one that you wish to set by pressing the TIME 1/2 button. To make the setting, punch-in the time using the numeric buttons, then press the TIME ? button. Don't forget to press the decimal point button for the colon in the in the time. Here's and example for setting the clock for 18:00:
Press 1 8 . 0 0, then immediately press the TIME 1/2 button. (remember to press the decimal point button between 18 and 00).
How do I set the alarm clock?
The alarm time is shown in the upper left corner of the display, under "ON TIME", when the radio is off. To set the alarm to activate at 6:30:
- Press 6 . 3 0 (be sure to include the decimal point).
- Immediately press and release the ON/TIME button.
- Select the alarm mode using the AUTO button.
